Costa Cruise ships 2025

Costa Cruises fleet stands out for its variety of ships: some impress with elegance and comfort, while others spark more debate among travelers, like the Costa Smeralda. Despite these differences, Costa Cruises remains a respected Italian reference, known for its friendly atmosphere, affordable fares, Mediterranean cuisine, and diverse itineraries around the world.

Covid-19 had a major impact on the company. Like many players in the industry, Costa had to rethink its strategy, retire several ships, and adjust operations to stay afloat. Some ships were transferred to other Carnival group brands, while others were retired or scrapped. This challenging period deeply affected the fleet but also led to gradual modernization and a focus on the most efficient ships.

On this page, I invite you to explore each Costa ship in detail—its strengths, weaknesses, and technical specifications. You’ll see that, even if not all ships are equal, the Italian company continues to offer authentic cruise experiences that are accessible, warm, and full of discoveries. Styles vary from ship to ship, but the Italian spirit remains intact.

Note: This review focuses exclusively on currently active ships in the Costa fleet or Carnival. I have intentionally excluded older vessels such as the Costa neoRiviera, Costa neoClassica, and Costa Victoria, the latter having been retired and scrapped. Some ships recently transferred to other companies, like Venezia or Luminosa, are still mentioned for their importance in Costa’s recent history.

Costa Concordia

Tribute to Costa Concordia and the Importance of Maritime Safety

The Costa Concordia, sadly infamous, is no longer part of the Costa fleet. During its 2012 accident, several lives were lost—a human tragedy that deeply impacted the cruise industry. This event underscores the critical importance of onboard safety and the responsibility of cruise ship captains.

Onboard, the ship offered comfort and facilities comparable to other Costa ships: elegant lounges, diverse restaurants, pools, and leisure areas. However, this accident demonstrated that even the most modern ships can be vulnerable without strict adherence to safety protocols.

Thanks to current safety protocols and systems, the likelihood of a similar incident occurring today is very low.
