Prohibited things in Dubai
Dubai travel guide
Thanks to MonTataneTour, I’ve had the chance to travel extensively and discover very different countries. I’ve visited many destinations… and yet, whether you criticize Dubai or not, there is one thing no other place offers today: complete visitor safety. Simply put, I’ve never seen a place in the world where I felt so safe, 100% of the time.
We were two women walking at night in Dubai: no problems, no lewd looks, no threats. Nothing. Just politeness and respect. Why? Because everyone knows Dubai is a welcoming, generous city that protects its guests.
And yes, this comes from a homosexual woman. I could criticize and say, “LGBT people are not accepted.” And it’s true that in all the countries I visit, I hold my partner’s hand… except in Dubai. But honestly, if this is the price to pay for living in a country that is so secure, respectful, and peaceful, then for me it’s okay—especially during vacation.
What I notice most is that safety comes first: fights, assaults, dangerous behavior… here, everything ends at the same point. The rules are strict, which forces everyone to behave properly. In the end, this is probably what many countries lack: a true sense of respect, peace, and security for all.
Here are the rules
| Category | Prohibition / Rule | Tips | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clothing | No provocative or vulgar clothing, no shirtless men; skirts and shorts are fine | Prefer modest outfits in public and religious places | Respecting local codes is essential |
| Respect & Behavior | No insults, obscene gestures, or loud conflicts | Stay calm and polite at all times | Violations are punished |
| Public Affection | No visible kissing or gestures of affection | Keep such gestures private | Authorities may monitor |
| Unmarried Cohabitation | Sharing a hotel room is possible but remain discreet | Respect accommodation privacy | Hotels are private but discretion is required |
| Alcohol Consumption | Allowed only in licensed venues | Do not appear drunk in public | Frequent checks, fines possible |
| Drugs & Medications | Possession or use of drugs strictly prohibited | Check medical substances before bringing | May include certain prescription medications from abroad |

Homosexuality

⚠️ Important: Dubai has strict laws based on Islamic culture. For LGBT+ travelers, it’s crucial to understand that homosexuality is illegal and discretion is mandatory. It’s not an easy destination for the community, but by staying vigilant and respecting local laws, it is possible to travel safely.
| Category | Rules / Prohibitions | Tips | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| LGBT Community | Homosexuality is illegal in Dubai | No public displays of affection, do not present as a couple | Be discreet and respect local customs |
| Public Display | No visible affection, even as a couple | Remain discreet and follow the law | Violations can lead to severe penalties |
| Cross-dressing / Clothing | Radical changes in clothing style are prohibited | Respect local dress codes | Sanctions possible for non-compliance |
