| Monorail + Taxi/Bus | The monorail connects several Strip hotels, then a short taxi or bus ride completes the transfer. | Avoids traffic, fast on certain stretches. | Less convenient with lots of luggage, transfers required. | $5–10 + possible additional ride |
| Rideshare / Uber / Lyft | Order a driver via app upon arrival. | Comfortable, flexible, ideal for families and groups. | Prices vary by time and demand, booking in advance recommended. | $35–60 depending on destination |
Traveler Tip: For a fast and comfortable ride, choose an official taxi or rideshare. For a more economical option, the shared shuttle is convenient. The monorail is an original option if your hotel is served.

Taxes & Tips
Las Vegas travel guide

In Las Vegas, the way taxes and tips work can be surprising if you come from Europe. Prices on menus, tags, or tickets never include sales tax and tips. It is therefore important to budget extra to avoid any surprises.
For Europeans, keep in mind that the final price is always higher than the listed one. For my friends from Quebec or Canada reading this, this system may feel more familiar since you are used to adding tax and tip.
Quick summary table
| Category | Description | Customary Practice / Tips | 💲 Approx. Budget |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sales Tax | Sales tax is never included in the listed price. In Las Vegas, it is around 8.38% on most goods and services. | Check the final amount at checkout or on the receipt before paying. | Varies depending on product or service |
| Restaurants | Tip is expected in restaurants, cafes, and bars. | 15–20% of the bill, sometimes more for exceptional service. | Example: for a $50 meal → $7.50–$10 tip |
| Taxis / Rideshare | Tip the driver in addition to the fare. | 15–20% of the total. Some people also round up the fare. | Varies depending on distance, often $2–$5 for a short trip |
| Hotels | Tip bellhops, housekeeping, valet. | Bellhop: $1–$2 per bag. Housekeeping: $2–$5 per night. Valet: $2–$5 on arrival and departure (as you can) | Varies depending on service |
| Other Services | Hairdresser, tour guide, delivery, etc. | Generally 10–15% of the service. | Varies |
In summary, in Las Vegas, always plan to add around 8.5% sales tax and 15–20% tips for most services. This will help you avoid surprises and fully enjoy your stay.
