Civitavecchia cruise port excursions
Civitavecchia cruise port โ Rome distance
During your Civitavecchia cruise stop, located about 43 miles from Rome, itโs essential to plan your transfer to the Italian capital. Many cruisers confuse the two because itineraries often show โCivitavecchia/Romeโ. Here are the best transportation options to reach Rome easily from the port.
- Cruise lines sometimes offer bus excursions to Rome, but prices can be high (up to $120 per person). Luckily, there are more affordable, convenient, and reliable options used by thousands of cruisers!

How to leave the Civitavecchia cruise port
To leave Civitavecchia port, the shuttles managed by Port Mobility are essential. Here are the two types of services available:
- Free shuttles:
These free shuttles connect the cruise docks (10, 11, 12, 12bis, 13, 13bis, and 25) directly to Largo della Pace.
They are stationed right in front of the ship and take just 4 minutes to reach Largo della Pace, a central square from which you can continue your journey.
Important: Walking out of the port is not recommended. The port is large and complex, making the route long and confusing. The free shuttle is the most practical option to reach the main exit.
Note: These shuttles are identified by a โFree Shuttleโ sign on the windshield. Make sure to board the buses marked as free.
- Paid shuttles Port Mobility ($7):
These shuttles provide a direct route from the cruise ship docks to the Civitavecchia train station. Also managed by Port Mobility, they are a convenient option for travelers who want to reach the train quickly.
Schedule: 7:00/7:30 AM to 6:30/7:00 PM, only on ship arrival and departure days.
- Duration: approximately 15 minutes to reach the train station from the port.
- Price: $7 per person per trip, tickets can be purchased directly on board.
Identification: Paid shuttles are marked with a โโฌ6โ sign on the windshield.
