How to leave the cruise port in Bari
In Bari leaving the port is very simple. The ship docks right in the city center and it takes about 10 minutes on foot to be completely outside the port and start exploring.
No shuttle or special transportation is required everything is easily accessible on foot. Once outside you arrive directly in the central neighborhoods of the city.
💡 Honestly for me and many other cruisers Bari is not the most beautiful port stop in Italy. However once there you can still find some interesting sights especially if you take a little time to walk away from the port.
Mediterranean cruise ports – What to see in Bari?

If you decide to stay in Bari the visit mainly focuses on the historic center called Bari Vecchia.
Start with Saint Nicholas Basilica an iconic site in the city and an important pilgrimage destination. A few minutes away the San Sabino Cathedral is also worth a visit.
Then get lost in the streets of Bari Vecchia where you will see the famous nonne preparing orecchiette by hand right at their door. This is perhaps the most authentic part of the port stop.
For a pleasant break stroll along the waterfront Lungomare Nazario Sauro perfect for a relaxing walk and enjoying the view of the Adriatic Sea.
If you wish the Norman-Swabian Castle can complement your visit even though the main interest remains the atmosphere of the historic district.
💡 Port stop tip Bari can be explored easily in a few hours. If you are looking for a calm stop without rushing it is perfect. If you prefer spectacular landscapes it is better to consider an excursion into the Apulia region.

How to leave the cruise port in Brindisi
Good news for cruisers leaving the port of Brindisi is free and extremely easy.
As soon as you step off the ship you are directly on the quay that runs along the city. No distant terminal and no mandatory shuttle you are immediately in the heart of Brindisi.
Brindisi is sometimes compared to the Italian Saint-Tropez. During my visit temperatures exceeded 104 °F and many establishments were closed giving a very calm atmosphere. The port stop mainly allows you to walk a few minutes to discover the waterfront and city center before returning to the ship.
Mediterranean cruise ports – What to see in Brindisi?

Brindisi is best explored on foot with no transport constraints. The port stop is ideal for strolling and enjoying the atmosphere rather than rushing from monument to monument.
Start with the waterfront and the inner port one of the city’s most beautiful features. The promenade is pleasant and offers lovely views of boats and building facades.
Continue to the Roman column of Brindisi a symbol of the end of the Via Appia then climb up to the Italian Sailor monument for superb views over the entire bay.
If the heat is manageable get lost in the historic center with its small squares cafes and typical Italian streets.
💡 Port stop tip Brindisi is perfect for a calm stress-free stop. Ideal for walking having a coffee on a terrace and admiring the port rather than for an intensive sightseeing tour.

How to leave the cruise port in Ancona
In Ancona the port is quite close to the city center, but unlike other stops you should allow some time to reach the main neighborhoods. Leaving the terminal is quick but no free shuttle is available: you will either walk or take a taxi or local bus.
On foot plan about 30 minutes to reach the historic center from the port.
By bus buses depart from the port every 15 minutes and reach the city center in 10 minutes. The ticket costs $1.65.

Ancona a port stop to skip?
To be honest Ancona is not the most spectacular Italian port stop. The city is quiet and most cruisers feel it is not really worth spending much time here. If you had to choose a port stop to skip this would be among the first on the list.
That said if you are already there you can still enjoy a short walk along the waterfront and quickly explore the city center. The San Ciriaco Cathedral perched on the hill offers a nice view of the port and the Adriatic Sea, but it is more of a small detour than a must-see attraction.
💡 Port stop tip Ancona can be visited quickly. If you have other more interesting stops on your itinerary prioritize them. This city is mainly convenient if you want to stretch your legs or enjoy a coffee by the port before returning to the ship.

How to leave the cruise port in Barcelona
Barcelona is a must-see stop in the Mediterranean, but it is no longer possible to walk from the cruise port. The terminals are too far from the city center, and pedestrian access is prohibited. Fortunately, getting to the heart of Barcelona is still easy and fast thanks to shuttles.
The most convenient option is the Cruise Bus, also known as the Blue Bus. It departs directly from your ship and drops you off in about five minutes near the Christopher Columbus statue, at the entrance to Las Ramblas. This is the most popular choice among cruisers.

The fare is ( $3.51) €3 for a one-way trip (if you disembark) and €4.50 ($5.27) for a round trip (for the duration of the stopover). The bus stop is only a few minutes’ walk from Las Ramblas and the Christopher Columbus monument, allowing you to start exploring the city center immediately without any hassle.
Cruise lines offer their own shuttle covering the same route. The service is similar, but the price is higher ($11/13) round trip per person). The Cruise Bus remains the most logical and economical option.
Mediterranean cruise stops – What to visit in Barcelona

The stopover in Barcelona is definitely worth it, even for just one day. The city offers a rich mix of culture, architecture, urban vibes, and seaside scenery. It’s a busy stop but perfectly suited to the pace of a cruise.
The most popular areas for cruisers are around Las Ramblas, the Gothic Quarter, the Sagrada Familia, and the waterfront. The atmosphere is lively and touristy but remains pleasant for a first-time visit.
Many choose to explore Barcelona independently, as transportation is easy and distances are manageable. Organized excursions are mainly useful for those who want to visit specific, more distant sites or avoid logistics.
Practically speaking, Barcelona is a stop where staying onboard would be a shame. The city is easy to reach from the port and offers plenty to see in a single day, whether you prefer a relaxed stroll or focusing on a few iconic neighborhoods.

To return to the port simply take the same bus back and then the orange shuttle to the terminal. This option costs only $3 for a round trip compared to $14 with the cruise line shuttles that cover the same route.
The sightseeing bus is a convenient alternative for those who want to enjoy the city without getting tired. Stop number 9, Cruise – Port of Valencia, is located right at the port entrance avoiding any shuttle or long walk.

How to leave the port in Tunis La Goulette
During your stop in La Goulette, you are about 6.2 miles (10 km) from the medina of Tunis and the souk (France Gate). Upon arriving at the port, you will discover Harbor Village, a charming area with shops, restaurants, and activities, where friendly locals immediately immerse you in the Tunisian atmosphere.
To reach downtown from the port, several options are available:
- The Civitatis shuttle via MonTataneTour is the simplest and safest option, with a guaranteed return for $35 per person. It is a shared group transport but very friendly.
- The cruise line shuttle is very expensive (starting at $89 per adult) for the same route, with no real advantage over the Civitatis shuttle.
- The taxi offers flexibility and private transport, but fares are high ($76 to $109) and some drivers can be insistent.
The train is the cheapest option (around $1.70 for 20 minutes). It departs 0.6 miles (1 km) from the port and quickly reaches Tunis city and the souks, but it can be crowded and pickpocketing is a risk during peak hours.

How to leave the port in Marseille
To reach downtown from the port of Marseille, you mainly have two options: the free port shuttle and bus 35T. The best choice depends on how much you want to walk and your timing.
The free shuttle operates on cruise days and helps limit walking. However, it does not stop directly at the ships. You need to follow the green path on the ground and walk 5 to 12 minutes to reach the stop at Porte 4. On the return, the bus stops at the same location.
Bus 35T departs from the cruise terminal exit. Depending on where your ship is docked, the walk to the bus stop can range from 0.4 to 1.6 miles (700 meters to 2.5 km). This is the most direct route to downtown but also the most tiring on foot.
In summary, if you want to limit walking and enjoy a comfortable option, the free shuttle is ideal. If you want to save time and walk a little, bus 35T takes you quickly to the city center.
