What is the best way to get to downtown Tarragona from the cruise port? Unfortunately, I don’t understand why the Tarragona port doesn’t offer shuttles to exit the port!!! They should really get on it… So, here are the remaining options for you.

→ Cruise line shuttle

Benefits

Fast and convenient . The shuttle drops you off 5 minutes walk from the city center (so allow 10 minutes by bus).
No waiting . You don’t have to look for a taxi or walk there.
Comfortable . The shuttle is usually air-conditioned and has comfortable seats.

Disadvantages

Expensive . The price is usually 10-12 euros per person, which can be high for a short trip.
Fixed route . The shuttle follows a predefined route, which does not allow you to stop at specific locations along the way.

Benefits

Fast and convenient . The taxi takes you directly to your destination.
Flexibility . You can ask the driver to drop you off at the exact location you want.
Comfortable . Taxis in Tarragona are clean and comfortable.
Correct price if you are traveling with 2 (or more), it is more advantageous to take a taxi compared to the shuttle!

Availability . It can be difficult to find a taxi, especially during peak season or when 2,000 passengers want a taxi at the same time.

Benefits

Free . This is the most economical way to get to the city center.
Good for your health . Walking is a great way to exercise and stay in shape. Granted, we already walk 10 km a day: 3 km to the buffet, 2 to the theater, 3 to the cabin 🤣🤣.
Discover the city . You can discover the city at your own pace and admire the landscapes.

Disadvantages

Long (for some). The walk lasts about 25 minutes but the view is magnificent (when you love the sea..)
Weather . The weather can affect your walking experience, especially if it is hot or rainy.
Luggage . If you have bulky luggage, it may be difficult to transport it on foot, in which case opt for a taxi.

If you like walking, Tarragona city centre is within walking distance from the port. A pleasant 20-30 minute walk will allow you to discover the city at your own pace and enjoy the magnificent views of the Mediterranean Sea. We went down with about twenty cruise passengers, and it is easy to do, without requiring any particular physical condition. Ideal to avoid paying for a shuttle when you are a family, you might as well keep that money to enjoy a good ice cream for 2 euros!

Roman Amphitheatre . Located near the sea, this 2nd century amphitheatre is an impressive relic from the Roman era. It offers spectacular views of the Mediterranean.

Arrabassada Beach . Spend some time on this beautiful sandy beach, ideal for swimming and relaxing or snorkeling. If, like me, you are a fan of snorkeling and always have your mask and snorkel in your suitcase, I recommend it as well as the “Platja” El Miracle beach accessible from the center on foot (wait until you are in the water to put on your fins 😂).
Water sports . Enjoy the various water activities on offer, such as paddle boarding, jet skiing or scuba diving.
